Testimonials

I have been taking lessons in person and virtually with Jasper for around 5 years now. I was a ‘returner’ having had lessons in my teenage years and wanted to take up the piano again as an adult. I have always really enjoyed my lessons with Jasper as not only has he helped me develop my technical ability in that time, but we have also formally studied more advanced theory and harmony which has helped my playing enormously. Not only is his knowledge and experience clearly exceptional but so is his approach to teaching.

As an adult student I greatly appreciate Jasper’s personalised and understanding approach to learning, whilst also encouraging me to explore more challenging repertoire. He has facilitated my development by being flexible around what can be achieved when commitments in my life are harder to manage.

Most of all I appreciate that Jasper has made my learning journey enjoyable, interesting, and rewarding. I would thoroughly recommend him to potential students of all ages and abilities.

Jasper taught our children for three years, developing both their technique and understanding of the theory of music. He is a patient, meticulous and enthusiastic teacher who is motivated to get the best out of his pupils. He also provided opportunity to perform in regular small concerts. Both our children got distinctions in their most recent exams under his tutelage and we are extremely grateful for his input into our children’s musical education.

My son Cyrus studied piano weekly with Jasper for over three years; progressing from the earliest stages, to Trinity level three or four. My son enjoyed his lessons, and we would have stayed with Jasper indefinitely if he hadn’t moved from Oxford.

As an instructor, Jasper is a perfectionist, working on pieces until they are fully developed. He helped Cyrus hear all aspects of the music; Jasper stressed technical proficiency in service of musicality rather than technical proficiency for its own sake. He was able to work with my son through different phases of instruction.

For some of the time he and my son were very focused on perfecting pieces for an exam, and my son passed with distinction. There were other times when my son’s school became more intense, and I asked Jasper to tone down the lessons. He took the opportunity to find fun pieces for Cyrus, and to explore new kinds of music. I think this was critical for Cyrus to continue with piano during periods where school was more demanding.

During the Covid lockdowns, my son looked forward to his online lessons with Jasper and they were able to make good progress on challenging pieces despite not being in the same room together. Jasper was reliable, and he kept good communication with us about scheduling changes and payment. On a personal note, we were happy to have Jasper come to our home each week – he became a friend to the family.

A dedicated and skilled tutor, Jasper provided us with an interesting and dynamic approach to teaching the piano-more than just learning how to play pieces but also how to read music, understand its theory and appreciate its history. A rare find!

Isabella, Adult Learner

Jasper taught me piano for over two years up until he moved from Yorkshire. I was working towards my Grade 8.  I found Jasper to be a very knowledgeable, imaginative and patient teacher who was able to draw on many techniques to help me move forward in my practice and improve my sightreading and aural ability as well as my playing, and always with humour and sensitivity.

Caroline, Adult Learner

Jasper embodies the ideal characteristics of a great teacher: In depth knowledge of the instrument, the ability to communicate it, and an infinite reserve of patience. Amber enjoyed learning from Jasper who has made learning piano fun for her. I can strongly recommend Jasper to anyone who is eager to learn piano.
